When you're paying bills in Marmalade, you may see a bill with a status Can't be paid. Here's what that means.
You'll see a Can't be paid status on an outstanding bill when there's an ABN issue. This usually means:
- Your ABN (or the other business's ABN) isn't valid
- You're paying someone with the same ABN as your business
- You're transferring funds to someone you're a business partner with
What to do next
If it's an invalid ABN:
- Check that both ABNs are correct and active.
- If needed, update the payee or bill details in your accounting platform (Xero, MYOB, etc.)
- We'll automatically pick up the change and you'll see the bill status change.
If you share an ABN or ownership
We can't process transfers between entities with the same ABN or between business partners. You'll need to make these transfers outside Marmalade.
Still stuck? If you're not sure what the issue is, email support@marmalade.com. We do our best to get back to you the same day.
